The
students at P.E.S. attend art lab once
a
week for thirty-five minutes.
Students are
instructed
using the Discipline Based Arts
Education
approach (DBAE). This form of
instruction
includes aesthetics, criticism,
history/culture,
and production.
Lessons include viewing and discussing famous artwork, art education
games,
using art materials and tools safely, and creating art. Every
lesson
may not be a production lesson. Lessons include concepts from
math
and science. There is some overlap into
music,
theater, and dance.

Students will be
studying four themes in art lab this year mandated by the Parish.
During the first nine weeks students will be looking at art that
reflects democracy. The theme is “Democracy in Action: America
Votes”. This is the Parish Fair Theme as well. The second nine
weeks we will be looking at ”Latin Art and Artists”. The Third
nine weeks will be “Women Artists” and the last nine weeks “The
Masters”.
