Cathy Lott and Charlene Mediamolle - counselors


The counselor’s role at Pontchartrain is to assist students in solving school related problems in a responsible manner. We are also available to listen, participate in parent conferences, and refer families to outside agencies for concerns not related to school.A teacher, parent, or student may request counseling. Please leave a message with the school office regarding your need to speak with a counselor.


Classroom Guidance Lessons

Counselors will visit each classroom on a monthly basis. Lessons begin in September and end in May. Lessons will cover many areas such as : cooperation, friendship, conflict resolution, abuse, honesty/tattling, responsibility, self-esteem, respect, acceptance / differences, work / study habits, assertiveness and others as needed.

Groups

Groups for divorce, self-esteem, social skills, and loss will be planned as needed throughout the year. If you think your child would benefit from this experience, please notify the counselor by way of the school office. A counselor will return your call and set up a conference. 
Gifted Screenings
If a parent would like to refer a child for a gifted screening, please indicate on a note sentto one of the counselors at school.The child will be screened as soon as possible, however this could take a couple of weeks at times.You will be notified by a letter sent home with your child as to the results of that screening.

Talented Screenings

The areas of talented screening are: art, music and theatre.A parent or teacher may refer any child for one or more of these areas.Please remember that we are looking for exceptional talent in these areas.Screenings should begin in September and continue once a month through March.Ms. Mediamolle will schedule these screenings, so please address all inquiries to her.
